Intersect

It all began with a simple diagram.

We’ve been chatting about the creation of a new type of event that builds on the talks at great events like Pecha Kucha Night and TEDxEdmonton. It would be about highlighting the creative entrepreneurs at work in our community and put their projects in the spotlight.

So we’re excited today to launch Intersect.

Intersect is a new ongoing series of events based on the successful DemoCamp series hosted by our sister organization, Startup Edmonton. Intersect puts geeks and artists on stage to show off creative projects that merge the worlds of music, film, art, technology, design, and other creative fields. Concepts, demos, samples, prototypes – but no powerpoint.

It’ll be a fun way to support creative entrepreneurs in our community as they inspire others to help bring their awesome ideas to life. We’re busy at work pulling the first edition together, so stay tuned!

artsScene Night Out: Hunchback

Join us for an artsScene night out at The Citadel Theatre for world premiere of Hunchback on Thursday, March 17. This darkly romantic musical, set amid the buttresses and shadows of Notre Dame Cathedral, is a surprising new take on Victor Hugo’s famous story. A tormented priest, a beautiful dancer and the deformed bell ringer Quasimodo, are swept up in a vortex of lust, fear and the desire to control destiny that ultimately destroys them all. It’s a production from the multi-award-winning creative team at Catalyst Theatre.

artsSceners can call the Citadel Theatre Box Office at 780-425-1820 and receive a 15% discount on tickets to Hunchback (regular price is $58 per ticket) for Thursday, March 17. These will not be available online and you’ll have to phone the Box Office directly to get this discount.

See you at the show!

Behind the Scenes: Serenade & Vigil of Angels

Join artsScene Behind the Scenes at the Alberta Ballet’s Serenade and Vigil of the Angels on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 6pm.

The evening will begin with a pre-reception and “Ballet 101”. This educational experience will describe aspects of ballet that are not generally known, and it will demystify some preconceived notions about ballet and the industry.

During the intermission artsScene will have an exclusive opportunity to go to the Dancers Circle Lounge where there will be a host bar and hors d’oeuvres.

Of course the evening will center on the viewing of Serenade and Vigil of Angels. The Toronto Star described Serenade as “One of the masterpieces of the 20th Century ballet” and Vigil of Angels was pronounced by Milan Press as “A modern-classical ballet of great intensity, of poetic force which we have rarely seen”.

This will be a fascinating evening that you will not want to miss out on!

Date: Saturday, April 2, 2011

Time: 6:00pm

Location: Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, Lower Meeting Room

Cost: $49.00
