About artsScene Edmonton
What is artsScene Edmonton?
artsScene Edmonton is a non-profit initiative that brings together young business and creative professionals (ages 18-40) through the arts, culture and creative industries. artsScene is a national initiative made possible by Business for the Arts, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering and promoting business leadership in the arts, facilitating funding relationships and connected business volunteers to the arts. artsScene has been established in Toronto, Halifax, Montreal, and now Edmonton and Calgary.
What we believe
We have brought artsScene to Alberta in order to mobilize young business and creative professionals to play an active role in the growth of the arts, culture and creative industries in our province. Our manifesto is built around three beliefs:
That, strong creative and artistic communities are linked to innovative and prosperous communities.
That, creative, cross-disciplinary collaboration between business and the arts yield powerful results.
That, this is about empowering and activating our connected generation to grow our creative community.

artsScene Edmonton is a volunteer-driven nonprofit network of leading young business professionals who support the arts through volunteerism and patronage. artsScene is a grassroots initiative of Business for the Arts, a national business association dedicated to fostering and promoting business leadership in the Arts, facilitating funding relationships and connecting business volunteers to the Arts.

We have four objectives:

  • Inspire interest in the arts. artsScene offers unique and meaningful encounters with the arts. Attend a different arts venue on a quarterly basis, from theatre and opera, to ballet and film, preceded by a “Behind the Scenes” encounter with the artists, directors and designers.
  • Deepen engagement in the arts. artsScene connects young business professionals to volunteer board and committee positions in the arts with BoardLink.
  • Unite and strengthen the next generation of leaders. Employee engagement and building of creative leadership skills is aimed to enhance performance, as well as mentor opportunities with senior business leaders who support the arts.
  • Recognize volunteers in the arts. artsScene celebrates young business professionals who demonstrate leadership as volunteers in the arts with the Arnold Edinborough Award.

What do we do?

We offer a mix of events and initiatives aimed at engaging our core audience, connecting them with arts organizations and each other in formal and informal social settings. This includes our popular Behind the Scenes series in which we partner with local arts organizations to give young professionals a unique perspective on the arts. We also drive initiatives such as the artsScene100 and BoardLink, that connect current business and community leaders with a new generation of champions for the arts in Edmonton.

Who do we reach?

Our primary audience is young people and professionals in the community between the ages of 20 to 40. They come from a wide range of backgrounds including technology, arts, creative industries, and professional services (finance, legal, etc). This addressable market makes up approximately 32.2% of the population (approximately 322,000) in the Greater Edmonton region (approximately 1 million).
