Jay Sparrow is a punk and a poet who wears his tattooed heart on his sleeve. Born in Thunder Bay, Jay moved at an early age to New Sarepta Alberta and as a teen spent his formative years prowling Edmonton’s Whyte Avenue. His Alberta blood is as thick as their oil. Grinding his teeth in various local bands Jay formed the popular punk band; Murder City Sparrows and recorded an EP and album (“Dead Horse Disco” produced by Gordie Johnson of Big Sugar fame). When the Sparrows weren’t touring he was working on his solo material and released the self produced “The Running”. He is currently working on his second solo album with noted singer/producer Jimmy Gnecco from NYC cult heroes; OURS. With his new sparser, darker sound Jay will be putting together a band of seasoned session musicians to accompany him on a fall tour. Catch Jay at the artsScene Edmonton Summer Party this Thursday!
